Our History

A Legacy of Excellence

Al Goldner (1918-2003), a Michigan State University floriculture graduate, began his career managing Dearborn's Regner's Nursery before joining J.L. Hudson Company. In 1953, along with his wife Jean Walsh, he founded Goldner-Walsh on Telegraph Road in Pontiac.

Al was a pioneer in landscape design, creating innovative works that blended classical aesthetics with modernism and rare plants. His vision established the foundation for what Goldner Walsh has become today.

In 1988, Tim Travis and Jim Slezinski purchased the business from Al Goldner, continuing his legacy of excellence while expanding our services and capabilities.

Today, Goldner Walsh has grown to include a full-service landscape design-build company, professional florist, four unique event venues, a tropical greenhouse, 6-acre nursery, and curated gift shop.

Tim Travis

Owner 1988-2026

Tim knew he was destined for a career in gardening from the moment he received a Zebra plant for Christmas in second grade. After spending his college summers learning from founder Al Goldner and earning his degree in ornamental horticulture and business from Michigan State University, Tim purchased Goldner Walsh in 1988. Under his leadership, the company evolved from a landscaping business into a beloved community destination featuring wedding venues, events, and partner businesses. Named Birmingham Bloomfield Chamber's Business Person of the Year in 2016, Tim is known for his belief that local businesses are co-professionals, not competitors—a philosophy that continues to shape our company today.

Jim oversees our landscape design operations and has been instrumental in growing our design-build services.

Amy has been with Goldner Walsh for over 20 years and is a master of her craft.

Angela ensures every event at our venues is flawlessly executed, from initial inquiry through celebration.

The Goldner Walsh Guarantee

We will cheerfully refund or replace, one time, any plant that has been properly cared for but has failed to survive for a period of one year from the date of purchase. Perennials guaranteed through November 1 of purchase season. Receipt required. Exclusions apply to annuals, bulbs, tropicals, and discounted items.
